Clive Emson auctioneers

Gosport flat sells for £84,000 – £14,000 above estimate

A two-bedroom flat in Gosport went under the auctioneer’s hammer when Clive Emson held its landmark 100th auction on Friday, March 24 at Hampshire’s Ageas Bowl.

The ground-floor garden flat at 68 Gordon Road sold leasehold for £84,000, which was £14,000 above estimate.
It was among 150 lots being sold in five auctions by Clive Emson, Britain’s largest independent regional land and property auctioneer.

Rob Marchant, the auctioneer for Hampshire, a member of Portsmouth Property Association and a keen cricketer, said: ‘There was keen interest in the flat, with the gavel coming down on a final bid of £84,000, which was £14,000 above estimate.’
He added: ‘It is a fitting venue to record a century of auctions as we approach £200 million worth of property sold across our local office region from what was a cold start.’

In the first change of location in 15 years, the next Hampshire auction – the 101st – takes place at the Solent Hotel at Whiteley, near Fareham, on Thursday, May 3.
Last year Clive Emson catalogued 1,168 lots and achieved sales of £160m at a success rate of 80 per cent.

The company also paid a record £750,000 to joint auctioneers; money went straight back into the industry through the link with estate agents needing auction facilities.

It is also a double celebration as the firm, founded 29 years ago in Kent by chairman Clive Emson, holds its 200th auction.
