Down End Road, Drayton – On the crest of Portsdown Hill

If you want to wake up each morning feeling on top of the world, there’s an easy way to achieve it.
Colin Shairp, of Fine and Country Southern Hampshire, is ready to say ‘top of the morning’ to you as he shows you round a property for sale virtually on the crest of Portsdown Hill – it’s tucked down just enough to avoid any north winds.
As a result of its location, the house in Down End Road at Drayton has a commanding view to the south stretching across Hayling Island, Langstone Harbour, Portsea Island, and the Solent. You would have to be exceedingly rich to be master of all you survey from the master bedroom balcony but you’ll certainly feel as if you do!
The house is set back from the road behind a paved driveway and its garage, set into the sloping plot with steps and terraces rising to the house itself. In front of the sitting room bay window and dining room French doors a level terrace provides an excellent high level seating area for entertaining guests or just enjoying a relaxing private supper with the odd glass or two of wine.
The entrance hall is set at the rear of the house with the kitchen / dining room extending rearwards alongside it. At the rear of the house is a large conservatory with French doors opening to steps leading up to a further level terrace beyond which the lawn rises away from the house.
‘The house has a brilliant layout that takes full advantage of its setting,’ says Colin. ‘The master bedroom has a south-facing bay window while the second bedroom alongside has French doors opening to a Juliet balcony. There is a third bedroom on this level at the rear, as is the family bathroom with both a bath and corner shower cubicle.
‘On the second floor are the fourth and fifth bedrooms, served by their own shower room, and a study, although I can’t promise much work will get done there as the views are breathtaking. Hopefully, they will also be inspiring!’
