Now, if you are thinking it costs too much to lose weight, you’re wrong. Fear not, I am here to show you a number of ways you can eat healthy on a budget, so if you have been using the ‘too expensive’ excuse, now is the time to ditch it.

Start by taking one day a week to plan the meals that you will eat over seven days. But also make a shopping list and stick to it.

One thing I really want to stress is not to shop when you are hungry, because it can lead to throwing something that you could really do without into the trolley.

Check out Aldi's weekly offers

I am a big fan of Aldi, and wish they had been offering their weekly 'super six' offers when I was a fatty. Each week you can check out their healthy fruit and veg offers, which really are great value.

Cook large portions and use leftovers

How often do you find yourself scraping the plate of leftover food into the bin? Most of us have been guilty of that. So, where possible, start using leftovers for next day lunches, or you might want to freeze them in single size portions for another day.

Buy frozen fruit and vegetables

Frozen fruit and vegetables are usually as nutritious as fresh, but more often than not they are cheaper. What’s more is that they are usually available all year round.

The one great benefit of cooking from frozen is that you will be able to take out only what you need to use, whilst the rest can be put back in the freezer.

Use coupons wisely

Coupons can help you a lot. But make sure you only use the ones for healthy foods, and domestic products.

Cutting the cost of non-food products such as soaps, shampoos and furniture polishes means that you will have extra money to spend on healthy foods.

Check out Morrison’s healthy living range

This is another supermarket that offers great value when it comes to fresh fruit and vegetables.

Simply Google ‘Morrison’s Healthy Living’ and you will be able to check out their array of great offers. Furthermore, they will deliver to your door.

Shop at the market

Fruits and vegetables sold at the market are often cheaper than the ones you will find in the shops.

But if you can’t get to the market, another way to save money is to do your shopping at the supermarket an hour before it closes. It is not unusual to see healthy foods marked down just before the store closes for the day.

Buy in bulk

Buying in bulk can save you money so, if possible, do buy extra. Examples might include buying frozen berries, frozen meat and poultry, frozen vegetables, dried fruits and oats. Stock up and save less should be the motto, if you want to save money.

Cook from scratch

You can save lots of money by cutting back on takeaways and by not eating in fast food restaurants.

Preparing and cooking your own meal is normally much cheaper, especially when eating as a family. This is also a great opportunity to get the kids involved, helping them to understand what healthy cooking means.
