Not many people get the chance to meet a future king. But two people who did were Cowplain youngsters Abigail Adams and Jeffrey Robinson.  '˜It was the most exciting day of our lives,' they chorused.Â

Abigail, of Cherrytree Avenue, and Jeffrey, of Greenfield Crescent, were among a party of children chosen to meet Prince Charles as a reward for raising money for the Mountbatten Memorial Trust.

Accompanied by Padnell Middle School's headmaster Peter Peek, they went to the late Lord Mountbatten's Broadlands home at Romsey to hear the Prince of Wales give special thanks for their efforts.

Prince Charles' objective was to launch the trust in memory of Lord Mountbatten after his death in Ireland at the hands of the IRA. The trust was established to support United World Colleges and research aimed at assisting the disabled at home and abroad. He said nothing would have given Lord Mountbatten more pleasure than the knowledge that his death would produce something positive in healing the divisions of mankind.Â
