Memories of a Waterlooville school '“ Nostalgia

David Crouch sent an e-mail from Japan telling me about the time he spent at Upper Mount School, Waterlooville.  He was researching the school and on The News website found an article I had written some years ago. One of the abiding memories was the unappetising food served at the school.
This child will never get to serve lunch. This child will never get to serve lunch.
This child will never get to serve lunch.

David says: 'I attended the school's kindergarten aged four or five about 1961 and remember it even today. One of my abiding memories was of the lunches '“ not how awful they were, but of the way they used to select lunch monitors from the pupils each morning during class.

'We would be asked to sit up straight with our arms folded across our chest and the teacher would select the pupils who were sitting up the straightest. It was considered such an honour to help serve lunch that we all sat rigidly upright trying to outdo each other's posture and be selected. I remember also that we were issued with little books of yellow perforated lunch tickets that we would tear off and hand in. Sadly I don't remember any of the teachers' or pupils' names, but it was 57 years ago!'
