NOSTALGIA: Why has Petula Clark been overlooked for so long?Â

There has been an ongoing  campaign on Angel Radio to make Petula Clark a dame.

For some reason she is missed off the Honours List every year.

Mike Jones, from Wales, tells me Petula was touring America in concert this time last year at the age of 85.

He has been a fan since 1966 and can remember seeing her in concert at Portsmouth Guildhall in 1973.

'I still cannot understand why she has not been made a dame having been in show business for so long '“ entertaining the troops on the BBC as a child, singing since 1942, then as a teenage film star.

'She has been an international star since Downtown topped the American charts in 1965.

'That is not to mention her charity work for UNICEF and other charities.'

Petula has appeared many times in Portsmouth. I saw her at the Kings Theatre in 1981 when the theatre was packed.

I managed to meet her afterwards when she signed three LPs for me.

I have seen her many times since and she always puts on a superb show.
