Portsmouth floods after heavy storms in 1984

Flood-struck Hampshire took another battering from strong winds and heavy rain.

People continued to clear up the devastation, which saw homes swamped, roads closed and sea walls breached.

Pictured is four-year-old Alan Lawrence, of Sandy Point Road, Hayling Island, who donned his dad's wellies for a walk in flooded Creek Road.

He was a litter-conscious young lad and a wind-wrecked brolly had to go in the bin. Boardsailor Buzz Hill, also of Sandy Point Road, sported his wetsuit for a walk along Hayling's storm-ravaged seafront and posed while taking a breather.
