Chichester Festival Theatre's ended a successful 19-week season with the average capacity of 93 per cent '“ believed to be the highest for any theatre in the country.Â

Top of the list was The Lady's Not For Burning, starring Richard Chamberlain and Anna Calder-Marshall, with 96 per cent.

Mr Fairweather, the press officer at the theatre since it was founded in 1961, said: '˜Our policy has always been to have the best we can get in the way of stars, directors and other staff and it's paid off.'
