THIS WEEK IN 1974: Farmers protest to public about food Â

Hampshire farmers visited supermarkets and flocked to high streets to explain to shoppers why they could not continue producing food without losing money.

This was their contribution to a European campaign calling for a better deal for farmers and protection of food supplies.

Fifty-thousand '˜your food is at risk' leaflets were distributed in shops and streets telling people of the rocketing costs of feed and falling prices of animals.

A number of leaflets were signed and sent to parliament.
