David Blackman delivered a dominant display to win the MBK Leisures junior open on Saturday.

The Hambledon angler recorded a stunning haul of 43lb 2oz to take the latest competition hosted at Coloured Ponds in Rake.

On his way to the overall victory, Blackman topped the standings for 13 to 16-year-olds.

Joseph Orriss was second best in his age group with 17lb 4oz, while Amara Thorn reeled in 14lb 5oz.

However, runner-up in the overall match was under-nine starlet Archie White.

The Petersfield youngster recorded a stunning weight of 32lb 2oz to win his category.

Fellow Petersfield talent Max Spiers was second with 23lb 15oz and Ben French-Lynch tipped the scales with 13lb 10oz.

The nine to 12-year-olds division was won by Jessica Carter.

Her weight of 15lb 10oz relegated Petersfield’s Connor Hinkley (10lb 15oz) to second, while Ben Stanley was third with 9lb 14oz.

MBK Leisures will return to Coloured Ponds on Saturday, May 11 for the next junior open.

Elsewhere, Gavin McKenzie is celebrating success in the latest open match at the same venue.

His winning bag weighed in at 35lb 8oz on Thursday.

Dave Steer had to settle for second spot with 28lb 12oz – but it was a close-run thing as Matt Dummer was only 8oz further back in third.

Brian Stevens’ total of 10lb was enough for fourth place.

McKenzie’s triumph came on peg 12 of pond three – with corn and meat proving the match-winning bait.

The next open match tomorrow at Pump Station in Greatham.
