THIS YEAR IN 1979: Young anglers fall victims of the weather

It was all smiles for father and son Bobby and Billy Blades as they enjoyed a smashing trip on their new boat, Happy Dayz.

The Stamshaw Lake AC members were fishing their favourite mark just west of the Nab Tower.

Bobby hooked in his best-ever cod, which tipped the scales at 20lb 7oz.

The catch puts Bobby in pole-position in the race to land the 200 first prize in the club's cod pool.

And he was not alone in enjoying great success.

Not to be outdone, Billy, aged 11, on his maiden voyage in the new boat, soon got to grips with the fishing lark.

He landed his first-ever cod at 15lb 12oz and he is now well on his way to super-stardom.
