Charlie Burns was the hot rod at the MBK Leisures Junior Open at Pump Station on Saturday.

The Holybourne angler took the 13 to 17 age category after his haul tipped the scale at 29lb 4oz.

And that total was enough to claim the overall success.

He held off Storrington’s Josh Tearle in the older age group.

Tearle’s 14lb 14oz catch was enough to net the runner-up gong in the match, though.

Dan Parry, also fishing in the 13 to 17 age group, landed a bag of 13lb 4oz – which saw him complete the podium both in his own category and overall.

A total of 27 budding anglers fished the competition in Greatham.

Connor Hinkley won the nine to 12 age category.

The Petersfield talent’s 8lb 4oz haul left Nathan Blackwell, from Farnborough, in the shade.

Blackwell’s 6lb catch was enough for second, though, with Brighton’s Kai Glasspool in third with 4lb.

The under-nine age group went to Ryan Hinkley and his 9lb 8oz catch.

Clanfield’s Tobias Sanders was second best with his 5lb 6oz total and Ollie Kitchener, of Storrington, recorded a weight of 4lb 6oz for third position.

The prizes were awarded by special guest Edd Orford, of Willow Park Fishery.

The next MBK Leisures Junior Open is on Friday at Coloured Ponds, Rake.
