THIS YEAR IN 1979: Young anglers fall victims of the weather

Portsmouth laminator Peter Murray has been among the big fish again.

The angler has landed a hatful of prime cod, with the biggest weighing a little more than 20lb.

Fishing from his 28-foot boat IONA, he bagged crackers of 20lb 4oz, 14lb 6oz and 11lb 8oz.

He and his crew were fishing a mark just south west of the Nab Tower in 60 feet of water.

Murray loaded his 6/0 pennel rig with squid and cuttlefish.

Meanwhile, Hampshire angler Dave Hopkins caught two nice cod of 19lb and 14lb on consecutive casts, fishing aboard Rob Hickins' Sea-Juicer.

Both fish took double squid baits on a pennel rig in 90ft of water just south of the Nab Tower.

n Allan's Marine are running their Christmas open beach competition this year on December 27.

The event takes place all along Tipner foreshore through to Pounds Yard.

Entry is 10, with a 100-per-cent payout.

Fishing times are 11am until 4pm and book in takes place at Allan's Marine in Twyford Avenue from 9am.

The weigh-in and presentation will be back at the Stamshaw Lake AC clubhouse.
