MIKE GROVES picked up the top prize after victory in round three of the Individuals Sea Angling Club’s Solent League at Eastney.
A total of 146 fish were recorded at the scales by 70 entrants for a total weight of 26lb 2.5oz, with the contest fished in fair conditions.
Groves fished from peg 28, in zone B.
The anglers were pitched in four zones, from Eastney firing range back to the pitch and putt golf course along Eastney Esplanade.
And Groves landed one flounder of 1lb 2.5oz, the heaviest fish of the match.
He also hooked three whiting for the best weight in the competition at 2lb.
It was Groves’ second ISAC match success, winning him the top cash award of £155, along with the ISAC round three trophy and certificate.
Runner-up in the competition was zone C winner Justin Roulland, from Portsmouth.
He fished from peg 55, landing two flounder for a zone winning weight of 1lb 12.25oz, collecting a £100 cash prize.
The final podium place went to Danny Mogridge, of Fareham, who, from peg 85, in zone D, landed a bass, rockling and whiting for a total weight of 1lb 11.5oz, earning £100.
Zone A saw both Peter Farrell, of Portsmouth, and Rob Marshall land whiting of 6.5oz to jointly win the zone and both collect cash prizes of £87.50.
The 53 sizeable fish caught on the day included bass, flounder, rockling, whiting and one sea scorpion.
The 92 top-ups were made up of bass, dab, flounder, plaice, pollack, rockling and whiting.
A total of £1,235 was paid out in 22 cash awards on the night.
Rob Marshall’s impressive start to the season sees him lead the league table on four points and 4lb 12dms in weight.
Richard Dorgan moved into second spot, on nine points and 2lb 7.25oz in weight.
Ian Dancey, from Waterlooville, climbed into third place on 11 points and 2lb 7.25oz in weight.
The next match will be fished at Lee-on-the-Solent on Saturday, April 21, from 7pm until midnight.
The book-in takes place two hours before the start.
