Havant are looking forward to the launch of the track & field season on Saturday at the Mountbatten Centre.

The club host their annual open meeting, starting at 9.30am.

Many of the top athletes in the area will be on show and the weather is promising.

The action includes the popular mile race, scheduled to start at 12.15pm.

Other events featured will be the 3,000m, 800m, long jump, high jump, javelin and shot put, while the sprints are always exciting to watch.

Havant coach Mike Williams is looking forward to the meeting.

He said: ‘The mile is always good because there aren’t many opportunities to run the distance on the track.

‘The long jump is a popular event and everyone likes watching the sprints.’

Entries are up on last year and people can enter on the day.

In the afternoon, Havant host their club championships.

This is for club members only as entrants take on 100m, 800m, long jump and shot put.

Points are awarded over the four events.

Williams is expecting middle-distance star Matt Gordon to impress after he clocked 2mins 01sec for 800m at Woodford Green last weekend.

Multi-eventer Aaron Howard could also be in contention.

Williams said: ‘Matt Gordon will be one to watch. He’s in good shape. Aaron Howard is one to watch as well.’

There is also a junior club championships, over three events – 75m, 600m and the long jump.
