Morrisons Great South Run got underway in fine style today as Moses Kipsiro and Andy Vernon sounded the starter’s horns on Southsea Common in the junior races.
Ugandan Kipsiro, a 10,000m Commonwealth gold medallist and Stubbington athlete Vernon - a European 10,000m silver medalllist - were treated to a fine display from many talented youngsters bidding to one day follow in their footsteps.
And it proved to be a fine day for City of Portsmouth Athletics club with Jacob O’Hara and Callum Crook celebrating double delight in today’s 12-15 boys race.
The City club also enjoyed success in the 5k with Lachlan Wellington claiming second place in 15.57.
Eloise O’Neill grabbed runners-up spot in the nine-11 girls category (9.22) with Aldershot Farnham & District’s Maisie Grice also earning silver in the 12-15 girls race.
