Four years after first competing in cycling, she is preparing to race across some of the toughest terrain in Europe.

She will be on the start line in July for the seven-day TransAlp Challenge, starting in Austria and travelling across the Alps to Lake Garda in Italy.

Attenburrow will be pairing up with South African Michelle Reed.

The event is known as one of Europe’s toughest stage races.

Attenburrow and Reed will be riding over mountains off-road on singletrack trails and down tricky descents.

The race will see them cover 600km and climb 20,000m.

Attenburrow revealed it has been her big ambition to take part in a stage race.

And she is looking forward to taking on the challenge.

She said: ‘When I started racing after being inspired by the Olympics in 2012 I always dreamed of doing a multi-stage race.

‘Now four years on I can’t quite believe that it’s real.

‘This race will not only be physically but mentally demanding and will be the ultimate test of endurance.’

Attenburrow is hoping her efforts will help inspire other women to take on sporting challenges, big or small, and achieve their own goals.

She also works as a coach teaching children and women how to get the most out of their cycling.

For this challenge Attenburrow is delighted to be backed by biking giants Specialized, who have agreed to support her for the 2016 season.

BikeFixers–Portsmouth, who supported Attenburrow throughout her 2015 season, will help to make sure her bike is race ready for the tough tests ahead.
