Big finale as Copnor hit six against Leigh Park

COPNOR F passed their final test with flying colours as they thrashed rivals Leigh Park 6-1.

Rob Derry’s side were nine points ahead at the final reckoning.

The teams shared the first two games with Danny Lumsden and Barry Wooley the happy winners.

Gary Green hammered Richard Burnett and skipper Derry sneaked a five-point win over Colin Ricketts to make it 3-1.

The last two could have gone either way.

But Gary Wilton held his nerve for an eight-point win over Richie Burnett.

And Darren Harper squeezed through 150-145 against a dogged Bill Parsons.

Pompey Royals chalked up their sixth success with another impressive display.

They recorded a 5-2 home victory against Cowplain.

Will Garrett ran in a 38 break to put the visitors ahead.

And he left John Wilson on his chair in a near 100-point victory.

Steve Orchard soon replied beating Richard Williams.

Paul Chivers put the stationsiders in front.

But Roy Steere hit back with a win over Dave Chivers to make it two each.

The final games were one sided.

Jon Challacombe and Chad Wainwright showed their capabilities.

Copnor Xcels played twice and returned completely different results.

They thrashed Cowplain 6-1, then lost by the same margin at Craneswater R on the match night.

Gerry Godden hung up his cue after more than 60 years of playing the sport.

He went out in style, beating another long-serving cueist Dave Pitman.

Andy Chambers, Dave Gowing, Kevin Figgins and Graham Farr were happy at Cowplain who had to thank Roy Steere for stopping the whitewash.

It was a differrent story at Southsea.

Andy Carter, Chris Davies, Liam Melia and Harry Yard ruled the roost.

Chris Bishop also starred with a 35 break but it was not the biggest run.

Tony Horten knocked up a 43 and still lost to Melia by 70 points. Dave Wheeler beat Jim Frisbee for Copnor’s only point.
