After the break City improved.

Good work on the right wing by Seb Martin found Ivan Boswell free to fire the ball into the D where Stuart Avery deflected it high into the net.

The win was sealed when City broke at pace down the left channel and Avery found Luke Parsons who spun and dragged the ball across the D for Boswell to deflect past the keeper at full stretch.

City men’s second team lost 4-3 to Winchester fourths.

Daniel Brettell scored a first-half hat-trick to put the City of Portsmouth side 3-2 up at the break.

But Winchester struck back twice in the second period to grab the win.

City took their foot off the gas in the second half, and Winchester took full advantage, scoring a third and eventually a fourth after a calamitous clearance from Dave White which somehow went backwards, and towards a waiting forward who converted to seal a 4-3 win for the visitors.

Man of the match was awarded to Elliot Ghent.

The City of Portsmouth third team finished their season with a 7-2 defeat at Poole in division six.

Dave McCracken and George Berks got the consolation goals.

Man of the match was awarded to Matt Pole for great work-rate all game.

City of Portsmouth Ladies had a dent put in their promotion hopes as they suffered a 4-1 defeat away to Fleet & Ewshot.

Captain Katie Spooner got the goal for Portsmouth in the Hampshire League division two clash.

Player of the match was jointly awarded to Sarah Bamford who defended well and Lauren Stewart who was lively going forwards.

Spooner said: ‘We still have three games left to play, only needing one more win to guarantee our promotion.’

The City seconds lost 5-0 to Romsey in division five.

Player of the match was Lucy Smith who had a strong game.
