There was triple success for Gosport ABC at HMS Sultan on Thursday as all three of their boxers competing came away victorious.
A crowd of 550 spectators watched on as Bradley Sullivan, Rosie Ratzer and Jon Ball secured wins – an achievement made all the more remarkable by the fact all three had bounced back from defeats at an event last month.
Gosport coach Darren Blair expressed his delight at the results.
He said: ‘It’s not every day you come away with three out of three.
‘Jon, in particular, really wanted a win because that was his final match.
‘He previously said he had played his last game but I persuaded him to come back and give it one more try so I was thrilled he ended on a high.’
Blair added: ‘It is also great to see the sport propelling on the women’s side.
‘Rosie is really getting her weight down now and working hard.’
Sullivan, 16, won by unanimous decision.
He has ambitions of following in the footsteps of his granddad and becoming a champion.
And according to Blair, is certainly going the right way about achieving his dream.
‘Brad’s still only young but he’s starting to come through quite strong now,’ said the coach.
‘He’s just getting into it and really enjoying competing so that is the most important thing.’
Despite Ball hanging up his gloves, there still looks to be a big 2016 in store for his Gosport club-mates.
Blair said: ‘Brad is now ready to have a try in the junior ABA.
‘It’s a big competition held on a national level.
‘Rosie has also got that coming up.
‘And she will compete in the female competition.’
