EBONIE JONES steps into the lion’s den in her bid for Euro glory today.
But the Heart of Portsmouth (HOP) sensation has been backed to rise to the task of silencing the home crowd at the European Championships in Italy.
Jones tackles Italy’s hard-hitter Lucy Garofalo for a place in the 50kg final at the tournament in Assisi.
The 16-year-old is one of three English boxers left in the event from the 240 females who entered.
A bronze medal is already in the bag for Jones after producing two outstanding displays so far.
HOP head coach, Q Shillingford, knows a big challenge lies in wait for her when she steps into the ring this afternoon.
But he backed the Charter Academy starlet to rise to the test.
Shillingford said: ‘We’re over the moon with how Ebonie is doing but the Italian she is facing now is one tough cookie.
‘It’s not going be easy taking her on in her back yard.
‘Ebonie is going to have to be at her best, that’s for sure.
‘We’re talking about the semi-finals of the European Championships now, so it’s a tough challenge.
‘But Ebonie has beaten the home boxer in these tournaments before.
‘One thing’s for sure – she will not let anyone down.’
