Pompey fans keen to see more of Chaplin
Conor Chaplin climbed off the bench to secure Pompey a dramatic win at MK Dons on Saturday.
The 20-year-old showed no signs of rustiness after just one minute of action in the Blues’ past five league matches to fire Kenny Jackett’s side to victory late into stoppage-time.
Chaplin’s 94th-minute winner was his fourth of the season and his first goal since being introduced to the action against Peterborough United in November.
Speaking to The News after his heroics, the striker – who was open to a loan move away from Fratton Park in January – admitted he has been frustrated by his lack of game time this season.
That led us to ask our readers on Facebook, whether Chaplin deserved more minutes under Jackett?
Here’s what they had to say...
He does (deserve more game time), but needs to be more effective from the start.
He did have a run of nine starts under Cook last season, scored twice against Leyton Orient but didn’t do a lot after.
As I said, I would like to see him have a run of games with Hawkins or Pitman along side him. Pup
It’s tough. He deserves more time on the pitch but when he starts games he’s not as effective as when he comes off the bench.
I rate him though.
Of course he does. One up front does not work, Chaplin is an out and out striker.
Play him and he’ll score.
Yes but only if they play to his strengths.
Too short for that lone role – put in in hole behind Hawkins.
Yes more game time!
No, I genuinely don’t think he is good enough for this level.
I’d love to see him prove me wrong but he never takes his chance when given a run in the team. Two mangers in a row have not thought him worthy of a regular place in the team.
If you played Micheal Owen on his own upfront he wouldn’t be that effective.
You deserved the fans’ adulation...and sent us all home much happier.
Hoping KJ uses you more often as your talents are wasted on the bench.
When you get the chance prove that he is wrong not to give you more playing time.
