Cook and Aston settle clash for Phoenix B

Phoenix North End B stayed level on points with the Portsmouth Men's Winter League division A high-fliers after securing a 6-3 derby victory over Phoenix North End C.

Lee Smith, Bob Hey, Lee Todd, with a 180, and John Garratt gave the B team a commanding lead before Robert Thomson got the C side off the mark.

Phoenix B sealed the win with sets from Lee Cook and Vince Aston, before the C team’s Mark Vipon and Liam Thomson replied.

Old House at Home A secured valuable points in division B’s relegation battle as they beat Harvest Home 5-4.

Harvest took a 3-0 lead with legs from Graeme Cooper, David Place Snr and Craig Bridgewater, but Old House hit back through Peter Neale, Steve Leigh, John O’Shea and Dale Adams.

Phil Mercer won for Harvest before Adrian Jones took the decider for Old House.

Portland dropped four points behind division C’s second-placed side as they went down 5-4 to George & Dragon.

Andrew Browne, Les Browne and Robbie Brooks gave George a 3-1 lead with Martin Simmons, who scored 180, replying early on.

Mark Mihell halved Graham’s deficit but Shane Plummer restored George’s two-leg advantage.

Robert Jamieson and Terry Griffiths levelled it but Les Weston won the crucial last leg for George.

Barley Mow won 5-4 against Fawcett Inn in division D.

Gary Nolan and John Dungworth put Fawcett 2-0 up but Barley’s Dave Plaiter Snr, Rae Lawson, Fred Stevens, George Watson and Don Bromhead won the contest.

Luke Smith and Steve Goodeve took late consolations for Fawcett.

Ricky Williams (Admiral Drake B) threw 15 and 17-dart legs while Andy Newcombe (Jolly Taxpayer C) notched a 15-darter and a 121 finish.

Frankie Howard (Newcome Arms A), Anthony Quintavalle (Jolly Taxpayer C), Colin McKean (Old House at Home B) and Liam Jafkins (Mr Pickwick) all had 16-darters and Charlie Linkhoen (Mr Pickwick) finished a leg in 17 darts.

Phil Rudder (Mr Pickwick), Sam Head, Danny Smith (both Admiral Drake B) and Darren Barnes (Newcome Arms A) all threw 18-dart efforts with Smith, Rudder and Head finishing on 118, 105 and 100 respectively.

Lee Brothers (Shearer Arms) checked out on 121, James Stevens (Duke of Devonshire) hit a 114 game-shot and Darrell Manchip (Newcome Arms A) recorded a 102 finish and 180.

Dion Jukes (Stag B) and Shaun Brooker (Admiral Drake B) both fired in maximums, Sam Damarell (Eldon Arms) scored 174, Trevor Cawte (Phoenix North End C) scored 160 and Kevin Hookey (Star & Garter) scored 156.
