Corporate clean sweep for Portsmouth

City of Portsmouth girls made a flying start to the Chichester Corporate Challenge.

They recorded a clean sweep of victories.

Anya Pigden, Churcher’s College, led the way in first place overall in the inter-school secondary girls’ race and was first year 10 in a time of 7min 17sec.

Bo Sansom, Swanmore, was second overall and first year nine (7.20).

Mia Billins, Portsmouth High, finished third and was second year nine (7.21).

The charge continued with Charlotte Bullard, Chichester High School, fourth and first year eight (7.28).

Eloise O’Neill, Cams Hill, finished fifth and first year seven (7.43).

The boys from the club were also in impressive form.

Josh Fawcett, Portsmouth Grammar, finished third in the secondary boys’ year seven and eight race and first year seven (7.24).

Cameron Walker-Powell, Mayville High School, was second in the year six boys’ category.

He finished with a time of 4.56.

And Freddie Thurgood, Lee-on-the-Solent, was fourth in the year five boys’ category (5.03).

It was a cold evening in Chichester with around 800 athletes in total taking part.

City’s Emma Montiel ran strongly to finish first senior lady (16.01).

Chichester’s American ace Chris Zablocki won the main A race in a time of 12min 49sec for the 4.5k course – the second fastest in its history.

Pete Concannon, also of Chichester Runners, finished third in 13.35 and Havant’s Chris Spinks finished fifth (13.53)

The next race of the series is on Wednesday, March 9.
