‘Bedhampton’s Ben Stokes’ hits out in thrilling victory over Portsmouth

Bedhampton captain Sam Robinson smashed his side to victory - their first in the Hampshire District League - over previous County G table-toppers Portsmouth at Bidbury Mead.

Batting at No 6, Robinson blazed six sixes and three fours in an unbeaten 63 which swept Mariners, chasing 203, to a five-wicket win with just four balls remaining.

Robinson - now nicknamed ‘the Bedhampton Ben Stokes’ by his colleagues - hit his runs off just 28 deliveries.

Jagdamba Bisht (14 not out) played second fiddle to his captain as the pair added an unbroken 62-run stand for the sixth wicket.

Fahad Ahmad (2-14) had earlier helped reduce Bedhampton to 47-3 before George Parvin (47) and Ian Onions (34) set the scene for Robinson’s savage hitting.

Dom Wood, in his first HDL outing of the summer, top scored for Portsmouth with an unbeaten 82 in their 202-6 total.

Wicket-keeper Jack Collett, opening the batting, hit 52 off 58 balls.

Left-armer Alex Graham was Bedhampton’s most economical bowler with 1-24 off his eight overs, including three maidens.
