Michael Carberry has been named in the England squad for the ODI series against Australia.

The Hampshire left-hander is hoping to make his t20 international debut against the Aussies at the Ageas Bowl on Thursday.

And now he has the prospect of a five-match, 50-over series against the tourists – with the final game also at the home of the Royals on September 16.

England have rested Alastair Cook, James Anderson, Ian Bell, Graeme Swann and Stuart Broad for the series after their 3-0 Ashes triumph.

Eoin Morgan will captain the side, while Kevin Pietersen is also included in the 14-man squad.

England will play a one-off fixture against Ireland next Tuesday but Pietersen, Joe Root and Jonathan Trott will not travel to Dublin.

Hampshire spinner Danny Briggs will come into the squad for the trip to Ireland.

England squad: Eoin Morgan (capt), Gary Ballance, Ravi Bopara, Danny Briggs, Jos Buttler, Michael Carberry, Steven Finn, Chris Jordan, Jamie Overton, Boyd Rankin, Ben Stokes, James Taylor, James Tredwell, Luke Wright
