James Vince finally ended his century drought as Hampshire closed in on their first home success of the Championship division one campaign.
The skipper cracked 125 not out to put his side in a commanding position where they need just four wickets to seal a much-needed win in their fight against relegation.
Warwickshire were set 444 to win when Hampshire declared their second innings at 283 for three.
And Hampshire then reduced the visitors to 161 for six at stumps.
Weather permitting, the Ageas Bowl outfit should complete the win which could breathe new life into the four-day hopes.
Vince said: ‘Hopefully the rains stays away in the morning and we finish it off quickly.
‘From a personal note, it was nice to make a big contribution.
‘Hopefully it’s a kick-start for the rest of the year.’
