Brad Taylor’s dreams of leading England to Under-19 World Cup glory in Bangladesh were dashed by Sri Lanka yesterday.

The Hampshire off-spinner had skippered his team to the top of their pool on the way to the quarter-final clash in Mirpur.

But after Taylor had won the toss and chosen to bat first in the last-eight encounter, England stuttered to 184 before they were bowled out in the 50th over.

The captain was the penultimate man out after hitting 22 from 25 deliveries with one four.

After the interval, Sri Lanka breezed to their target in just 35.4 overs.

Taylor returned figures of none for 24, while his Hampshire team-mate Mason Crane took one for 35 with his leg-spin.

However, it was not enough as the young talents exited the competition.

On Saturday, England’s senior one-day side took a 2-0 lead in their five-match series with South Africa.

Hampshire’s Reece Topley starred with four for 50 in the five-wicket win.
