Simon Katich has turned down the chance to return to Hampshire next season, instead opting to join Championship division two rivals Lancashire.
The former Australia Test batsman was offered a fresh contract at the Ageas Bowl after his successful stint last summer and recently told skipper Jimmy Adams he was considering his options back home.
But now it appears the 37-year-old has decided he prefers the challenge that Lancashire can offer as they bid to return to Championship division one following last season’s relegation.
That leaves Hampshire turning their attentions elsewhere to secure an overseas player for next season.
Katich said: ‘I’m sure Lancashire will be looking to head straight back up to division one.
‘I’m determined to play a big part in this happening.
‘I’d like to thank everyone at Hampshire Cricket for all they have done for me.
I leave with many great friends and fond memories.’
