They were hustled out for just 64 en route to a seven-wicket caning by Waterlooville.

It was the second time in 2020 they had failed to reach three figures, having been skittled for 80 by Portsmouth & Southsea.

Last man Jordan Price top scored with 14 after Purbrook had collapsed to 46-9.

Ashan Silva trapped opener John Moller (3) leg before, with Jon Hudson (2-15) dismissing captain Josh McCoy for a single.

Alex Cox (10) was the only other Purbrook batsman to reach double figures, while opener Martin Lee (7) hung around before he was seventh out with the score on 37.

Max Goddard (3-7) and Matt Cook (3-17 off eight overs) helped themselves to cheap wickets.

McCoy (3-21) took all the wickets in reply as Waterlooville ensured an early finish by requiring just 15.1 overs to wrap up their third win in four matches.

Opener Archie Reynolds (29) top scored.

It doesn’t get an easier for Purbrook, as next week they face second-placed Liphook & Ripsley who, like P & S, have also won the only two games the wet weather has restricted them to.

Gosport were 50-3 before former US Portsmouth all-rounder Toogood walked out to join Charlie Creal.

The pair added 127 for the fourth wicket before Creal (57) was bowled by Angus Brown.

Toogood, who had cracked 10 boundaries in his 67, was then dismissed by Will Ross to make it 183-5.

Ross (3-19) and Angus Brown (3-16) - the seventh and eighth bowlers used by the home side (and also the two opening batsmen) - combined to see Gosport end on 197-9.

That meant six wickets had tumbled for the addition of only 20 runs.

Sampath Prathapasinghe (3-23 off eight overs) took all the wickets as the hosts reached 84-3.

No more wickets would fall as wicket-keeper Hugo Hammond (74 not out) and Jamie Theale (39 not out) shared an unbroken 114-run fourth wicket stand.

Neither was wasting much time - Hammond hitting 11 fours and three sixes and Theale four fours and two sixes.

There were still nine overs left when Gosport conceded the winning runs.
