Hampshire’s Friends Life t20 clash with Sussex has been abandoned after just 17.4 overs were bowled at the Ageas Bowl.

The no result, however, should see the Royals progress from South Group and into the quarter-finals of the competition.

With torrential rain falling on the south coast, the hosts were unable to complete their bowling overs, with the Sharks on 203 for five when called off the field of play.

England wicketkeeper Matt Prior led the Sussex charge.

He produced a quick-fire 81 from 37 balls, before being caught by James Vince off the bowling of Danny Briggs in the 13th over.

Briggs also claimed the wicket of Murray Goodwin (15), caught by Kabir Ali, while Liam Dawson, Glenn Maxwell and Sean Ervine also got in on the act before play was called off.
