Hampshire’s pre-season preparations will see them face some familiar foes as they return to the Caribbean this week.

Jimmy Adams’ squad will play two two-day games against Warwickshire (March 19-20) and Leicestershire (March 24-25) at Windward CC and Carlton CC respectively in Barbados.

Adams will lead a 14-man squad that includes youngsters Adam Rouse and Sean Terry but is without Dimi Mascarenhas, the rested Danny Briggs, Neil McKenzie and overseas batsman Simon Katich.

The Royals will also take part in a T20 competition at the Kensington Oval on March 21 and 22, alongside Derbyshire, Yorkshire, Warwickshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Barbados and a Combined Campuses team.

Their first match in that competition will be against Warwickshire, with a potential further two matches in a cup knockout (between the four winning teams) or plate knockout (four losing teams) on the Thursday.

The squad then returns on March 26 for a two-day friendly with Sussex at Hove from March 31 to April 1 before their clash with Loughborough University on April 6-8 at the Ageas Bowl.

The season then starts on Thursday, April 12, with a County Championship home clash against Gloucestershire.

The club have also confirmed details of two friendly t20 matches they will be playing on the Isle of Wight during the season.

The matches, to be played at Newclose County Ground on June 11, will see a Hampshire XI take on a Professional Cricketers Association (PCA) XI as well as a combined Hampshire Cricket/Isle of Wight XI take on the PCA XI.

Hampshire manager, Giles White said: ‘These matches will not only act as an excellent warm-up to our Friends Life t20 campaign, but will also provide cricket fans on the Island with a great opportunity to come and see the team perform first-hand.’
