The 27-year-old has never played in the competition before, but has made 42 T20 international appearances for Scotland.

Playing against the Netherlands last September in a T20 Tri-Series tournament in Dublin, Munsey lashed 127 off just 56 balls with five fours and 14 sixes. He reached three figures off just 41 balls.

That is the fifth fastest T20 international century in history, and two of the four that were faster were made against total minnows Turkey.

In April 2019, playing for Gloucestershire 2nds in an unofficial friendly against Bath CC in Bath, he blitzed 147 off just 39 deliveries.

Munsey needed a barely believable 25 balls to bring up his century, and in all he smashed 20 sixes and five fours as Gloucs amassed an extraordinary 326-3 off 20 overs at North Parade.

The Oxford-born player is no stranger to Hampshire, having played one 2nd XI Championship game for the county in 2018.

He opened the innings against Surrey 2nds at New Malden, scoring 30 and 29.

Munsey played one first class game for Northants in 2015, against the touring Australians. He also played two Royal London Cup ties for Leicestershire last year and has also turned out for Nottinghamshire 2nds, Northants 2nds and Lancashire 2nds.

Playing for Watsonians against Falkland in 2017 in a Scottish Eastern Premiership 50-over contest, Munsey belted 220 in a team total of 440-4.

There could be spaces available in the Hampshire top order for the T20 Blast, which is due to start towards the end of this month.

James Vince’s second child is due in a few weeks, so his availability could be a doubt, while Aneurin Donald’s fitness is also an issue as he recovers from a winter knee op.

Rilee Rossouw, a key member of Hampshire’s white ball teams in recent years, is unavailable due to the pandemic.

Hampshire start their T20 South group campaign against Kent at Canterbury on August 27. In a shortened fixture list, they have 10 group games - playing Kent, Middlesex, Surrey, Sussex and Essex home and away.
