Southsea Cycles hosted the launch of Portsmouth’s new race team last week.
The Albert Road shop was the first port of call for i-Team’s Racing Development Squad (RDS) Junior Race Team, which is a separately-funded branch of the city club.
My filter on life really is if it’s fun, we will keep doing itGuy Watson
The seven-strong squad consists of Joe Clark, Harvey McNaughton, TJ Nel, Jack Noble, Kyle Henderson, Nick Kimish and Victoria Lovett.
Each of the riders has progressed from the Portsmouth School of Cycle Racing (PSoCR).
And with so many talents graduating from the youth ranks to junior racing in one go, i-Team founder Guy Watson has taken the gamble and formed a race team in a bid to keep them together in 2016.
He has gained support from Moda, who have supplied the race bikes, Southsea Cycles and a raft of patrons to put together a support package worth almost £25,000 for the young talents.
Watson said: ‘I am really excited. It has only just started to sink in.
‘It is an interesting approach and I don’t know whether it is going to work or not.
‘But my filter on life really is if it’s fun, we will keep doing it.
‘If it is not, we will try something else.’
