Three Gosport riders are celebrating after becoming British BMX champions.

Ethan Craik, Connor Hedges and Rhys Deans all took the honours at the recent British Championships in Birmingham to underline the Gosport club’s position as one of the leading outfit’s in the country.

Fareham youngster Craik, who has enjoyed a superb season, triumphed in the male 10 category as club team-mate James Campbell took fourth place.

While Craik was the hot favourite to win his event, in the male 11 section, Elson’s Connor Hedges ousted more fancied riders to storm to the title with a surprise success as another Gosport rider, Evan Watson, came fifth.

And the Military Road club’s success didn’t end there as Deans, from Rowner, grabbed the silverware in the male 12 category to cap a remarkable treble for the local side.

Coach Darren Fells said: ‘I wouldn’t say Ethan was a dead cert to win, but we knew he had a very good chance – he has been winning races all year.

‘Connor’s achievement in winning his category was immense because he hasn’t been winning races.

‘But he’s a very determined young lad and he’s trained very hard.

‘Rhys has not done that many national events, so pulling that one out of the bag was an unexpected win and very well deserved.

‘But it was our most successful British Championships.

‘It’s the first time we have had three champions.’
