Clarence Gardens suffered their second defeat of the season as they went down 5-4 to Thatchers in Portsmouth Men’s Winter League division D.

Tony Bell and Terry Archer put table-toppers Clarence 2-1 up before Peter Lamb got Thatchers off the mark.

Clarence restored their two-leg advantage through Aaron Shambrook but Thatchers then seized control with David Edwards, Simon Edgar and Dan Paddon moving them within a leg of victory.

Ken Brown won the penultimate tie to keep Clarence in the match.

But Chris Diamond won the decider to give Thatchers the points.

Star & Garter moved out of division A’s bottom two as they beat Stag A 7-2.

Star wasted no time as Phil King, Gary Hayward, Dave King – 18-darter – and Dave Gisby propelled them into a 4-0 lead.

Roy Sands and Peter Scott halved Stag’s deficit but it was to no avail as Lee Stevenson and Paul Miller were on the mark for Star and they were awarded the last leg as a walkover for Trevor Martin.

Old House at Home moved two points clear at the top of division B after beating Harvest Home 5-4.

Harvest took a 3-1 lead with wins from Martin Clifford, Robert Hatherley and Paul Maganzini while only Liam Jafkins could provide an early reply from Old House.

Laurie Clark pulled a leg back for Old House before Peter Webb put Harvest on the brink of victory.

But momentum swung to Old House as Dave Paul, Colin McKean and Chris Jafkins won the remaining ties to bag the points with McKean and Jafkins hitting 180 and 177 respectively.

Stag B continued their domination of division D as they demolished Druids Arms 8-1.

Wins from Jim Snook, Gary Dean, Dave Smith and Nick Hatherley and a walkover for Aaron Thomas guaranteed Stag the points.

Mark Pearce ensured Druids didn’t suffer a whitewashing before Mark Cunningham, Dion Jukes and Mark Barnes rounded things off for Stag with Jukes scoring 153.

Darren Barnes (Newcome Arms A) threw a 14-dart leg and Jon Bramble (Shearer Arms) notched a 16-darter.

Andy Newcombe, Gary Smith (both Jolly Taxpayer C), Gary Collis, Mike Symes (both Admiral Drake B) and Darrell Manchip (Newcome Arms A) all finished legs in 18 darts with Collis and Smith checking-out on 130 and 100 respectively and Symes scoring 180.

James Brooker (Admiral Drake B) hit a 100 game-shot, Lee Smith (Phoenix North End B), Chris Harradine (Rose in June B) and Trevor Cawte (Phoenix North End C) all fired in maximums and Les Weston (George & Dragon) scored 156.
