Impressive Duke of Devonshire leapfrogged Phoenix North End C to take third place in Portsmouth Men’s League division C with a 6-3 success.

Dean Messenbird took the opener for Phoenix.

But Duke then seized the momentum.

Robbie Blake, Len Eastland, Paul Simmons and John Elverson all notched legs.

Arthur Hawkins kept Phoenix in the match but it was only a temporary reprieve.

Duke’s Trevor Clements and Les Shipp wrapped up the win.

Trevor Cawte took the last leg as a consolation for Phoenix.

Star & Garter opened up a four-point lead at the top of division D.

They won 7-2 against Oyster House who dropped to fourth.

Chris Shinar started Oyster off in winning ways.

But Dave King and Paul Miller soon moved Star in front.

Chris Cobb junior restored parity for Oyster but that was all they could muster.

Star took the remaining ties with Lee Stevenson, Phil King and Trevor Martin among the winners.

Raven maintained their advantage at the top of division E, thanks to a 6-3 triumph over Druids Arms B.

Druids put themselves firmly in the driving seat as they rattled off four legs on the trot.

Tony Smith, Stephen Hansford, Tony Rees and Mark Pearce were all on the mark.

But Raven snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.

Glen Bremner, Lee Simmons, James Baseden, Scott Lees and Jerry Goddard took all five remaining clashes to win the match.

Barley Mow came from behind to defeat Clarence Gardens 5-4 in division F.

Dave Stewart, John Winslade and Jamie Harris put Clarence 3-1 up, with only George Watson providing any early resistance from Mow.

Derek Lendrum and Rae Lawson put Mow back on level terms before Karl McCarthy moved Clarence within a leg of victory.

However, Mow’s Michael Chandler took the penultimate leg to force a decider which was won by his team-mate Jon Davison.

Newcome Arms A cemented their second-place position in division A with a 5-4 win over Mr Pickick B.

Paul La Roche and Chris Jafkins put Pickwick 2-1 up, bagging sets either side of a Newcome win from Frankie Howard.

Chris Smith extended Pickwick’s lead before Newcome hit back with Dave Robinson, Kevin Gilchrist – 17-dart leg – and Darren Barnes – 16 and 18-dart legs – all on the mark.

Pickwick made it 4-4 with Lee O’Donovan throwing an 18-darter.

But it was Newcome’s Dean Jones who won the decisive leg with a 144 game-shot and 18-dart leg.

Unbeaten Mr Pickwick A beat Old House at Home A 7-2 in division B.

Pickwick stormed into a 4-0 lead, with wins from Richard Beech, Aaron Wood, Malcolm Ogden and Phil Rudder.

Adrian Jones got Old House off the mark but Julian Court scored 180 to win the match for Pickwick.

Charlie Linkhorn and Connor Hurry made it seven for Pickwick with wins either side of an Old House consolation from Alan Grant.

Rob Knowles (Graham Arms A) threw a 15-dart leg, while Adam Lipscombe (Admiral Drake B) had 17 and 18-dart efforts.

Danny Smith (Admiral Drake B), Vince Aston and Ivan Gicquel (both Phoenix North End B) all had 17-darters and Jon Bramble (Admiral Drake B) used 18 darts to win a leg.

Jim Mortimer and Barry Evans (both Jolly Taxpayer C) both checked-out on 100.

Mick Neilson (Stag A) and Ricky Williams (Admiral Drake B) both fired in maximums, while Ken Dean (Old House at Home B) scored 171.
