Old House more comfortable after key clash

Old House at Home B recorded a 5-4 win in their division A relegation clash with Artillery Arms in the Portsmouth Men’s Winter League.

Dave Paul and Colin McKean gave Old House the early lead before Derek Manchip and Austin Main put Artillery back on level terms with Manchip scoring 180.

An 18-dart leg and 127 finish from Steve O’Brian put Old House back in front.

But Artillery’s Paul Richardson was awarded the next set as a walkover, making it 3-3.

Old House then took two on the trot to win the match courtesy of Brian Croucher and Laurie Clark.

The last set went to Artillery as a walkover for Roy Morran.

Division B table-toppers Shearer Arms suffered their first loss of the season as they went down 6-3 to third-placed Graham Arms A.

Graham led throughout as Mark Mihell and Rob Knowles took the first two legs before Bruce Baker got Shearer off the mark.

Graham sealed the win with Nigel Young, Jamie Davis and Martin Simmons all on the mark.

Wes Farminer and Sam Palmer made the score more respectable for Shearer, taking legs either side of Allen Duffin adding Graham’s sixth.

Newcome Arms B cemented their position in division C, with a 6-3 triumph over their nearest rivals Raven.

Newcome took five of the six opening legs thanks to Colin Atrill, Ron Neale, Chris Wallis, Tony Proce and Ivan Lowden, while only Dave Mortimer responded for Taxpayer.

Dave Clarke doubled Taxpayer’s tally before Bill Tipler claimed a sixth leg for Newcome and Taxpayer’s David Gough rounded things off.

Oyster House A moved within four points of division D’s leaders as they beat Fawcett Inn 5-4.

Fawcett went 2-1 up with legs from Jason Appleton and Mark Standen after Chris Cobb jnr had opened proceedings for Oyster.

Jon Macdonald restored parity for Oyster but Stuart Barber immediately put Fawcett back in front.

Momentum then swung to Oyster as Daniel Wheeler, Chris Cobb snr and Chris Shinar guaranteed them the win.

Steve Goodeve took the last leg as a consolation for Fawcett.

Rose in June A recorded an 8-1 demolition of Painters Arms.

James Dugan, Jim Dugan and Paul Saynor gave Rose a 3-0 lead.

Painters’ John Lourenco secured his side’s lone win before Ian Saynor, Graham Turner, Mark Ford, Robert Ford and Dave Lennox completed a convincing victory for Rose.

Danny Smith (Admiral Drake B) threw 13 and 18-dart legs, while Jamie Stewart (Phoenix North End B) registered a 14-darter and Ricky Williams (Admiral Drake B) and Michael Chandler (Eldon Arms) both had 15-dart efforts with Chandler firing a 110 finish.

Phil Rudder (Mr Pickwick A) finished a leg in 16 darts, Darren Barnes (Newcome Arms A) recorded a 17-dart leg and 180 and Ray Williams (Lord Chichester A) and Jon Bramble (Admiral Drake B) both had 18-darters.

Paul Easterbrook (Mr Pickwick A) checked-out on 103 while James Brooker (Admiral Drake B), Steve Filby (Newcome Arms A), Gary Ramshead (Thatchers), Steve Ockendon (Jolly Taxpayer C) and Ron Waters (The Royal) all fired in maximums.
