Phoenix snuffed out by Jolly Taxpayer

Daniel Stapley gave Taxpayer the initial advantage before Ian Vincent and Pat Callard put Phoenix 2-1 up.

Taxpayer regained the lead with Dave Andrews and Mark Andrews notching wins.

But Phoenix hit back once more as Liam Thomson and Terry Scullion put their side within a leg of victory.

But that was all the North End outfit could muster as David Clarke and George Davis took the remaining ties to bag the points.

Tap moved up to fourth in division C after they came from behind three times to secure a 5-4 victory over Graham Arms.

Rob Knowles and Nigel Young put Graham 2-1 up as they took legs either side of a win from Malcolm Tilley.

Ian Smith and Mark Wilson gave Tap the lead before Terry Griffiths and Martin Simmons made it 4-3 to Graham.

Tap then took control with Steve Udy and Robert Scott winning the last two legs to take the match.

Phoenix Southsea sealed a convincing 7-2 triumph over Barley Mow in division D.

Mow’s Rae Lawson won the opening clash.

But David Tait, Mick Mulvey, John Lloyd, John Nash, Pete Hickman and David Bishop then swept Phoenix to victory.

Andy Lawson won a consolation leg for Mow before John Sullivan added a seventh for Phoenix.

Newcome Arms A earned their first points of the season in division A.

They registered a 5-4 win against Rose in June B.

Andrew Packham opened proceedings for Newcome.

But Shane Williams immediately restored parity for Rose.

Sets from Shane Filleul and Dean Barlow moved Newcome into a 3-1 lead.

Cyril Large then reduced the deficit for Rose.

Darren Barnes moved Newcome within a set of victory but Rose wins from Michael Neat – with a 15-dart leg – and Ian Pearce – with a 180 – made it 4-4 and forced a decider.

Newcome took the crucial final set courtesy of Del Thomson.

Mike Symes (Admiral Drake B) recorded 14 and 17-dart legs and a 180, while Jon Bramble (Shearer Arms) threw an 18-darter with a 106 finish.

Colin Prout (Stag A), Lee O’Donovan (Jolly Taxpayer C), Dale Adams (Duke of Devonshire B) and Liam Jafkins (Old House at Home) all finished legs in 18 darts.

Danny Browne (Froddington Arms A) hit a 142 game-shot and Kevin Wilson (Mr Pickwick) checked out on 108.

Steve Hansford (Druids Arms B) fired in a maximum and Jim Dean (Duke of Devonshire B) scored 162.
