Jolly Taxpayer C cemented their place in the top three of Portsmouth League division A with a 6-3 triumph over Phoenix North End B.

Early wins from Andy Newcombe and Alan O’Donovan put Taxpayer 2-0 up before Phoenix’s Jamie Stewart and Lee Smith restored parity.

Lee O’Donovan threw an 18-darter and 180 against Smith.

An 18-dart leg from Steve Filby got Taxpayer back on track and Rob White put them within a set of victory.

Craig McEwan kept Phoenix in the match but Shane Hore took the penultimate set to give Taxpayer victory and leave team-mate Anthony Quintavalle to round things off with a pair of 18-dart legs and 130 and 116 finishes.

Star & Garter kept up the pressure on division B’s leaders as they dispatched Jolly Taxpayer B 5-4.

Taxpayer took the lead four times with Steve Houghton, David Gough, Mark Ford and Robert Houghton all edging them ahead.

But each time Star hit straight back with Gary Hayward, Paul Miller, Phil King and Tom Bartholomew.

With the scores at 4-4 it was Star’s Dave King who won the decider.

Druids Arms came from behind to defeat Oyster House A 5-4 in division C.

Oyster took a 3-0 lead through Graham Keen, David A Hatherley and Phil Smith.

But Druids then seized momentum with Darren Robson, Tony Smith, Mark Pearce, Steve Hansford and Paul Boden giving them an insurmountable lead. Lee Lamkin won a late consolation for Oyster.

Stag B continued their dominance in division D as they won 5-4 against Eldon Arms.

Mark Cunningham opened proceedings for Stag but Michael Chandler – with an 18-dart leg – Jon Davison and Matt Lovesey soon put Eldon 3-1 up.

Stag regained the lead courtesy of Gary Dean, Nick Hatherley and Matt Jeffery. Eldon’s Martin Reiley made it 4-4 but Steve Clarke won the decisive leg for Stag.

Charlie Jackson (Admiral Drake B) threw a 14-dart leg and Sam Palmer (Shearer Arms) had a 15-dart effort, with both players scoring 180s.

Jon Bramble (Shearer Arms) notched a pair of 18-darters and Paul Haines (Lord Chichester B), Steve Marsh (Shearer Arms) and Chris Harradine (Rose in June B) also finished games in 18 darts.

Kalvin Legg (Old House at Home C) checked out on 104, while Neil Sheppard (Rose in June B), Ricky Udy, Paul Wain (both Shearer Arms) and Colin McKean (Old House at Home B) all fired in maximums and John Madgwick (Lord Chichester B) scored 171.
