Donald targets trophies at Hampshire

ANEURIN DONALD surveyed his move to Hampshire and insisted: I've come here to win trophies.Â

The Welshman joined the Ageas Bowl outfit on loan from Glamorgan for the rest of the season last week, before he pens a two-year contract at the club.

Donald is set to make his Hampshire debut in their County Championship division one clash at Essex tomorrow (11am).

He replaces captain James Vince, who has been called up for England's fourth test against India at the Ageas Bowl starting on Thursday.

Donald grew disillusioned with opportunities at Glamorgan, having scored just 67 runs from seven innings this season.

He's joined Hampshire seeking regular first-team matches '“and is targeting silverware.

Donald said: '˜My game was stagnating at Glamorgan and this was a great opportunity to push my batting on in all three formats.

'˜I want to come here to win trophies and hopefully progress my own game and make it to the national team as soon as possible.'

Donald looks likely to fill the number-four spot in Hampshire's batting order at Essex. But he insists he's comfortable wherever required.

'˜Red ball I am definitely a middle-order, I'll probably end up batting four or five,' added Donald.

'˜The best batter tends to end up at four in English conditions so that is what I am aiming for but I will slot in where I'm needed.'
