Double delight as Southsea club members prepare for World Championships

The Southsea Rowing Club pair have been in excellent form and qualified with a second place in the British Rowing Offshore Championships in Sandbanks in August.

They will be Great Britain's second ranked men's double in the prestigious global competition which takes place in Sidney, just north of Victoria, British Columbia, in Canada.

Elder, 21, and Mahoney, 19, are both from Portsmouth and they have rowed with Southsea Rowing Club since they were 14. 

The World Rowing Coastal Championships is taking place from the 11th-14th of October, in Sidney Canada.

Southsea Rowing Club provides a healthy, fun, competitive environment for rowers of varying ages and abilities on the Portsmouth seafront.

Whether you are returning to the sport after university, are an accomplished rower, or are just getting started, they cater for everyone who is keen to get involved.

The club belong to both the Hants and Dorset Amateur Rowing Association and the Coastal Amateur Rowing Association (CARA).

They compete in regattas as far west as Swanage and as far east as Dover, and every summer welcome clubs from both associations at the annual Southsea Regatta.

You can start rowing in the junior programme age 14, and compete in races by age group. After that, you can compete in the open competitions at various levels.
