Eldon step up promotion bid

Eldon Arms cemented their position in the top three of the Portsmouth Men's League division D with a 7-2 victory over Fawcett Inn.

Liam Thomas started the match well for Fawcett.

But it didn’t last long as Craig Watson, James Elliott, Sam Damarell and Ian Mitchell propelled Eldon into a commanding lead.

Keiron Brennan pulled a leg back for Fawcett but Martin Reilly, Michael Chandler and Jon Davison won the remaining ties for Eldon.

Old House at Home B pulled themselves off the foot of division A as they saw off Stag A 5-4.

Nick Light took the opener for Old House but despite Brian Colenutt scoring 180 in the next set Stag hit straight back through Duncan Cope.

Ken Dean put Old House back in front and Laurie Clark notched an 18-darter and 106 finish.

Joe Bridle reduced Stag’s deficit but Brian Croucher took the next set to move Old House within a set of winning the match.

Stag refused to roll over with Paul Emeney and Andrew Smith making it 4-4 to force a decider in which Old House’s Colin McKean threw an 18-dart leg as he bagged the points for his side.

Artillery Arms kept their division B promotion hopes alive with a 5-4 triumph against Electric Arms.

Charlie Hymers and Peter Webb put Electric 2-1 up with legs either side of an Artillery win from Austin Main.

Roy Morran and Steve Woodage gave Artillery a 3-2 lead before James Bateman and Mark Hymers put Electric on the brink of victory.

However, Artillery’s Robert Osborn and Jim Adams wrapped up victory.

In division C, Portland Arms beat The Tap 6-3.

Asa Norris, Dave Stewart, Joe Sweetman and Rob Griffin put Portland 4-1 up with Jason Jeal replying.

Robert Scott and Les Phipps put Tap within a leg but Paul Drinkwater and Ben Watson sealed Portland’s win.

Danny Smith (Admiral Drake B) threw 14 and 17-dart legs while Steve Humby (Jolly Taxpayer C) and Mike Feaver (Lord Chichester B) also finished legs in 17 darts.

Phil Rudder (Mr Pickwick), Shane Williams (Rose in June B), Frankie Howard, Paul Richmond (both Newcome Arms A), Sam Palmer and Bruce Baker (both Shearer Arms) all recorded 18-darters.

Lee Robertson (Clarence Gardens) checked-out on 112.

Darrell Manchip, Dave Robinson (both Newcome Arms A), Neil Sheppard (Rose in June B), Charlie Jackson (Admiral Drake B) and Mark Barnes (Stag B) hit maximums while Lee Smith (Phoenix North End B) fired a 171.

Jolly Taxpayer C’s Andy Newcombe and Teresa Johns claimed the mixed pairs’ title with a 2-0 victory over Sam Palmer and Lisa Bramble, of Shearer Arms.
