Fantastic four as Simm bounces back in style

The Whiteley gymnast won four gold medals in the prestigious international event, where gymnasts from her club Dynamo also put in some fantastic displays.

Simm was left out of the Great Britain squad for the Rio 2016 Olympics.

But she has since increased her difficulty levels and was rewarded with four titles at the Rushmoor Academy.

The Rosebowl is an annual competition allowing clubs, regions and national teams to compete against each other.

A total of 20 teams lined up in various categories throughout the day.

Dynamo head of performance Kerri Upton was delighted to see Simm bounce back well after the disappointment of not making the team for Rio.

Upton was also pleased to see the rest of the Dynamo squad impress in such a high-quality competition.

She said: ‘After disappointment this summer for the Olympic Games, Kelly has used this as a platform to show her new difficulty level ahead of next year.

‘It was great for the Dynamo team to hold their own competing in an international.

‘We hope this will inspire the girls ahead of next year.’

Dynamo gymnast Simm competed for Great Britain and she led them to first place in the team event with a combined score of 209.65.

Simm put in a fantastic performance to take the individual all-around Rosebowl title with a score of 54.30.

She also received the Rosebowl for the highest score on any one apparatus, her vault score of 14.15.

Simm’s performance qualified her through to all four apparatus finals the following day.

And some spectacular routines saw her collect two more golds on vault and bars.

Meanwhile, Dynamo were in action in round two, starting their competition on beam which can prove one of the most nerve-racking starts.

However, the team held their own and got off to a fantastic start.

Senior gymnast Danielle Barnes led the team with an all-around score of 46.35, putting her in 29th in the individual competition.

Tayah Askham finished with an all-around total of 44.85, coming in 47th, and qualified as first reserve for the Beam final.

This was a huge achievement among an international field of gymnasts.

Team-mate Jessica Wells scored 43.20, placing her in joint 57th.

Olivia Essex finished in 65th with a total score of 42.30 and Leah Mitchell in 67th with 42.10, out of a massive field of 96 gymnasts.

Dynamo’s younger gymnast Elise Blisset had the opportunity to warm up along with the team and then cheered the team on throughout the competition.

In the team competition, Dynamo placed fifth among the club teams and 12th overall.
