Adam Webster back to give Pompey boost

The 21-year-old has been suffering from a tight hamstring and was left out against Leyton Orient last weekend.

Instead, Christian Burgess partnered Matt Clarke in the centre of defence, with Webster named among the substitutes.

The youngster was also omitted from Tuesday’s reserve fixture against Reading’s development side as a precaution.

The Blues fielded a strong squad in the 3-1 behind-closed-doors victory.

But Webster has since come through training sessions without any setbacks to put himself in contention for tomorrow’s visit of Bristol Rovers.

First-team coach Ian Foster said: ‘Adam had a tight hamstring last week.

‘It wasn’t a strain of any grade, just tightness from the Morecambe match. He was okay, just a bit tight.

‘Rather than play in the reserves, he spent Tuesday morning with the youth team for an hour and come through unscathed.

‘He then trained with the rest of the group on Wednesday and did fine, so he is okay.’

Adam McGurk and Adam Barton both collected knocks while playing for the reserves, but are expected to be available.

Meanwhile, Danny Hollands is progressing following his broken leg.

Foster added: ‘Danny is doing really well. What you get from him is he puts his head down and works really hard and he was running on grass last Saturday morning.

‘He has been using the balls as well so we are hopeful, within a couple of weeks we will have a fit, strong Danny Hollands.’
