Administrator is urged to consider fans bid for Pompey

MPS from across the area have added their names to a letter urging Trevor Birch to seriously consider a community buy-out of Pompey.

Portsmouth North MP Penny Mordaunt, Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage and Meon Valley MP George Hollingbery have joined 22 other members of parliament in calling for the administrator to give the proposal put forward by the Pompey Supporters’ Trust a fair hearing.

In it they write: ‘The plight of Portsmouth Football Club has attracted much attention in parliament.

‘Its administration has run alongside several debates, the select committee report and preparations for an imminent Private Members Bill which will seek to address the football creditors rule. We have been impressed with the professionalism and vision of the Portsmouth Supporters’ Trust.

‘While you have to judge the merits of the trust’s proposal we expect it to be given equal consideration alongside other offers you have received.

‘The speed and scale of this community buy-out proposal gives the PST a trail-blazing status and as a consequence it will be subject to unprecedented scrutiny.

‘We will all be following the process closely as it will have clear implications for the future course and momentum of community buy-outs across the UK.’
