Appleton chasing double Pompey swoop

POMPEY boss Michael Appleton is attempting to push through two striker loan signings before tomorrow's visit of Scunthorpe.

And he is trying to finalise an audicious deal for triallist Akos Buzsaky.

The free agent trained with the Blues for the first time yesterday along with fellow new face Luis Boa Morte.

While Pompey’s financial position means it is unlikely they will be signing ex-Fulham and West Ham forward Boa Morte, there is a chance Buzsaky could join on a short-term deal.

The Hungarian midfielder featured 18 times for QPR in the Premier League last season but was released this summer.

However, a deal will not be done in time for Buzsaky to face Scunthorpe tomorrow.

Appleton is also focused on bringing up to two front men in before that clash.

His limited striking options this week received a further blow when Luke Rodgers was ruled out for six weeks with a thigh injury.

And the Blues manager is desperate for fresh bodies to arrive for the Iron’s visit.

Appleton said: ‘We will definitely get one in, hopefully two.

‘There are still two or three we are looking at and we would like two.

‘One is nailed down and pretty much done.

‘He is coming from the same division as us. Both players would be in on loan.

‘Boa Morte and Buzsaky were in training yesterday morning and we will see what sort of shape they are in.

‘Who knows how long they will be here? We’ll just have a good look at them.

‘I’ve not asked them yet if they will play for nothing. I’ll try to suck them into the club first!’

Boa Morte is currently 35 and last month had a brief spell with Toronto.

The forward cost West Ham £5m in January 2007 – and left Upton Park in the summer of 2011.

Meanwhile, Buzsaky made 113 appearances and scored 18 goals for QPR before his release.

Appleton added: ‘I have been in contact with Akos and his agent for a while now. He has been training at Wycombe just to keep himself fit.

‘We have said to him we’ll sort something out if we are in a place where we can do it and if he wants football until January.

‘We are not daft – he was a Premier League player last year. If something bigger and better came up, which I am sure it will in January, he will go.

‘But I don’t think there is any better place for him to keep himself fit and get games of football if we are in a position to do it.

‘He’s a very good player who can play off a striker and pick a pass.

‘Luis has been training with Fulham for five weeks and was in South Africa last season.

‘He is the wrong age in terms of players I would generally like to look at.

‘But if his legs are still there you can’t turn your nose up at him – you’ve got to have a look.

‘He has bags of Premier League experience and can play in numerous positions.’

Meanwhile, Appleton has confirmed Hermann Hreidarsson is no longer training with the Blues.

The veteran defender has returned to Iceland to manage home-town club IBV.
