Appy keen to bring in defender

Michael Appleton is keen to recruit Mustapha Dumbuya after he joined Pompey for pre-season training.

Dumbuya was one of four triallists as the Blues reported back for duty at Eastleigh yesterday.

Former Chelsea man Jon Harley was also present, along with keepers Simon Eastwood and Laurie Walker.

Appleton admitted he wants to do a deal with 24-year-old Dumbuya.

He said: ‘If we can get an agreement, Muzzy (Dumbuya) is someone I’d be very interested in.

‘Muzzy’s a really attacking full-back. When I’ve seen him play at Doncaster he plays like a wing-back or a winger.

‘He’s really attack minded and will be the type of full-back I’m looking for this year. I want two really attacking full-backs who can get forward and bomb on.

‘He’s a young ‘un but has decent experience at Championship and League One level. He’s a good kid who’s desperate to get going again – and he showed he’s a fit lad as well.’

Harley has just been released by Notts County, Walker is with Kettering Town and Eastwood was at FC Halifax Town last season.

Appleton said: ‘Jon has vast experience and has played at every level.

‘We got a couple of young keepers. There’s a possibility that one or maybe both of them will get a trip to Spain and we can then have a right good look at them.’
