Appy: More to come from Pompey goal hero

Michael Appleton believes there is plenty more to come from Pompey match-winner Wes Thomas.

Thomas grabbed an 89th-minute winner on his debut as the Blues grabbed a much-needed 2-1 victory over Scunthorpe - their first league win of the season at Fratton Park.

The 25-year-old struck late on after completing his loan move from Bournemouth yesterday.

Appleton praised Thomas and believes he will be a greater threat when he builds up his match fitness.

He said: ‘It was a good debut.

‘He hasn’t played much football so hopefully we can get him up to speed and then we will have a player on our hands.

‘Wes and Izale McLeod were both lively and looked a threat.

‘Now we we need to remember what that winning feeling is like and take it forward.’

Meanwhile, Akos Buzsaky is still at Pompey as Appleton pursues a deal for the Hungarian midfielder.

Buzsaky has been training with the Blues along with Luis Boa Morte.

Appleton said: ‘They are still here - but getting deals done is never easy here.’
