Appy's pride after four-some Pompey display

Michael Appleton was delighted as a powerful second-half performance from Pompey resulted in a sensational 4-1 thrashing of Birmingham.

The Blues boss was thrilled with the way his players regrouped after going in at the break 1-0 down.

Appleton said: ‘We got around people and into people’s faces and it resulted in us creating some good opportunies. I thought we passed the ball a lot better in the second half.

‘I just asked the players to show me some more aggression, enthusiasm and willingness to run.’

Appleton and his upbeat Pompey troops now turn their attentions to another crunch match, when they travel to relegation rivals Coventry on Saturday.

And they are buoyed by the confidence gained from the success over Birmingham.

‘There are going to be a lot of twists and turns but tonight was a good night for us,’ said Appleton.

‘Coventry is another must-win game on Saturday.

‘If we win against one of our competitors it puts us in a good position.’
